Gilt lettering to spine and left hand side of front cover, no dust-jacket. Top edges gilt, rest uncut. (viii), 301pp, 9pp book adverts plus tissue guarded frontispiece. Other illustrations (some full page) within the text. Book Condition: Good. Very solid volume. Buckram/cloth joins a bit untidy and boards have a few marks. Prelims toned and just the edge of the frontispiece has a water stain. Two images.

Half calf with marbled paper to boards and gilt title on black label on the spine. 66pp. Book condition: Rubbed with upper hinge partly split. Extremities of spine nibbled. Contents clean and firm. Full of interesting facts on Bristol’s trade, justice, development and infrastructure including comparisons with 4 other cities. Not common.

The Bristol Extension Bill, 1895. House Of Lords, Minutes of Proceedings.

Minutes of Evidence taken before The Select Committee of the House of Lords.... between Tuesday, 14th May and Monday, 27th May, 1895; including 2 folding tables giving the City’s expenditure over the last 5 years and a table of the affected districts with their Areas, Populations and Rateable Values and their expected expenditure on Schools, Roads, Sanitation and the Poor over the next 20 years. Approx. 638 pp, folio. Hard covers. Three quarter calf rubbed out of existence, both hinges cracked but lower board tightly sewn. Upper board a little loose. Spine has lost its leather entirely. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Text block tight and clean. Contemporary dedication from “An outer Barbarian”. Dipping in found little gems of exchanges, e.g. “Then here is his coachman”. “Oh, Bother his coachman” from Counsel. There are a lot of exchanges about drainage and sewage. “And would you prefer to see the sewage of the district taken into Bristol?”. “Certainly”. The Chairman, Earl of Belmont: “I am afraid I did not know that Gloucester was a port”. A very unusual item.

Original cloth boards with original paper spine label (price was 4s.). Book Condition: Good. Upper hinge cracked but board secured by ties. Lower hinge weak and extrems of spine chipped. The original paper label has small loss to the L of Bristol. The plan has been repaired on one fold with no loss. The map is in very good condition. The text begins on page 3 (B) but as this is a feature of the first edition also, it is believed complete. Two images available.

Pages 753-844, 92pp. Includes folding map of Gloucestershire by Robert Morden and a table of road distances between towns in the county, which is decorated with arms of the towns. Bound in quarter Morocco with marbled boards; gilt title on the spine. Upper board detached. The map is a little creased and the rest of the pages are toned. The table is stained and repaired, verso.

Bound in plain stiff paper; title typed on the spine. The map has a little offsetting but the rest of the pages are in very good condition and clean.

This book contains interesting facts about this area of central London, its buildings and its characters. Book Condition: Good except for chipping with loss to the extrems of the spine and a little chafing to the lower hinge. Two or three pages have short closed marginal tears and a crease or two. Lower hinge a little weak internally.

Illustrated with 34 engraved full page plates (2 folding). Hard covers. Bound in half calf with marbled boards and gilt rulings, rebacked; the original spine has been reattached and it has five raised bands with gilt rulings and a gilt title. The compartments each have a fine blind decoration. 2 previous owners’ armorial bookplates on front paste-down. The whole binding is firm and the volume weighs 3 kg so shipping will need a supplement. Plates include 6 of Berkeley and Thornbury Castles and 10 other grand houses plus historic artefacts, etc.

It contained 8 pages in each issue with local news, stories, poetry, etc., including articles on Steam Navigation (7), American Lynch Law, Merchant Service (6), Somerset Dialect, Transatlantic Steam Navigation and Screw Propellers, Loss of the William Brown, Perils of a Voyage to Portishead, Life Boats for Steam Vessels, Journey to the Dead Sea, Port of Bristol.

Title page says: Hand-Book to Places of Interest near Bristol. vii + 194pp, original printed card covers, re-backed with new label, few marks to covers and some careless openings. Green stamp of Terence Bryant Bristol Collection to the inside front cover. Date believed to be 1867. Apparently one copy has that date at foot of Preface. This copy and the sole copy on COPAC do not have dates. (It is a rare item as there is only one copy on COPAC which lists over 100 UK and Irish academic, national & specialist library catalogues). It includes lists of some 700 ferns, grasses, and plants in the neighbourhood and as well as copious information on Clifton and its immediate surroundings covers numerous places as far afield as Gloucester, Raglan, Chepstow, Glastonbury, Taunton and Exeter. Condition: Good.

A Series of Ancient Baptismal Fonts, Chronologically Arranged.

Book Description: Published by Septimus Prowett, London, 1828. First and only edition. Hard covers. Tall octavo. xxvi + 80pp + 40 plates + Addenda + Directions to the Binder. Bookplate of the Rt. Rev. Sir Lovelace Tomlinson Stamer Bt., DD, VD, (18 October 1829 - 29 October 1908) who was the first Anglican Bishop of Shrewsbury in the modern era. Full diced stained calf with gilt rope motive surrounding the boards, gilt decoration around the board edges and four raised band with elaborate gilt blocked motifs to the compartments. Title in gilt on a red leather label. End papers and all edges marbled. Ribbon marker intact. Book Condition: Although hinges are a little rubbed they are fully intact. The internal condition is almost entirely free of foxing and without offsetting, both often met with in this work. The plates are therefore beautifully clean (except the frontispiece which has faint spotting). A really fine copy. Three images.
