Plate from Narrative of a Voyage to the Southern Atlantic ocean in the years 1828, 29, 30: performed in H. M. sloop Chanticleer, under the command of the late Captain Henry Foster, F. R. S. &c. by order of the lords commissioners of the Admiralty. From the private journal of W. H. B. Webster. Published by R. Bentley, London, 1834. Plate is in very poor condition with numerous creases strengthened verso. Staten Island is the most extreme South East point of Tierra del Fuego. The plate refers to carrying out gravity pendulum experiments at various latitudes to attempt more accurate calculation of the shape of the earth.
