Home Page Buying Maps Books Prints Ephemera

Southern England covers Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and all English counties to the South. Items are grouped together by county and the counties are in alphabetical order.

Please note that many places we think of as being in London were well outside its boundaries in the nineteenth century and so some London views will be found in the UK Southern England section within Essex, Herts, Kent and Surrey. I have included Middlesex within the London classification.

All our prints are Originals. They are NOT modern reproductions or electronic copies. Images are of the item for sale and may exaggerate blemishes and alter colours. I endeavour to mention any damage. The size given is of the sheet overall, unless otherwise stated, which is the image shown including margins.

Cambridgeshire. Down the Old Coach Road past the Bell at Stilton.
The date of this print is uncertain but possibly from the 1890s as claimed for his polo prints using the same style. Could be from one of the books about Mr Verdant Green and his college adventures.
c1895 - 21.5 x 14 cm

Delightful book illustration by well known English painter, sporting writer and magazine illustrator for The Field and Vanity Fair, Cuthbert Bradley (1861-1943). Presumably a lithograph with the green ochre background allowing the white highlights to shine through. The gentleman bi-cyclist has a tow rope to help the lady! His cycle has an acetylene headlamp.
