All our prints are Originals. They are NOT modern reproductions or electronic copies. Images are of the item for sale and may exaggerate blemishes and alter colours. I endeavour to mention any damage. The size given is of the sheet overall, unless otherwise stated, which is the image shown including margins.

I have added a score of the ORIGINAL SIGNED ARTWORK DRAWINGS in pen & ink on card by HERBERT RAILTON for: EDINBURGH - A Historical and Topographical Account of the City, Written by M. G. Williamson, Illustrated by Herbert Railton. Methuen, 1906. Herbert Railton was born in Lancashire. He trained as an architect at the firm of W.S. Varley in Blackburn. He joined the local literary club where he met artist Charles Haworth, who became his mentor, and gave him further instruction in working in black and white. After his drawings of a railway accident at Blackburn station (1881) were published in the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, Railton went on to become one of the leading illustrators of his day. Railton provided many black and white illustrations for magazines and books - including editions of books by famous authors such Oliver Goldsmith, Henry Fielding, Samuel Johnson, etc., and travel guides, such as The Story of Oxford, The Story of Chartres, Coaching Days and Coaching Ways, Moated Houses, Pen Drawings of Florence, etc., etc. Despite my best efforts, the images of these Railton drawings do not adequately show the contrast between the black ink and the white board.
