Medals. Heroes of the Victoria Cross - 12 Reliefs.Harry Payne was commissioned to produce these paintings which were issued in Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee year 1887 by Birn Brothers & Kensington Fine Art Association.c1887 - 15 x 12 cm Portraying the Various Deeds and Daring Valour Performed by Britain's Soldiers. From the Crimean War To the Present Day. Original antique embossed chromolithographs rescued from a Victorian scrapbook. The chromos have a sort of deckle edge and were issued with the most fragile protuberances, such as cutlass blades, so one can see why they were mounted in an album and they have the paper still attached. Six have random scraps verso. Three others have another of these chromos verso. They have been trimmed to remove as much of the backing paper as possible. All are complete as far as I can tell except for the panel defining the action on #3. (That text will be forwarded to the buyer). There are a few minor creases including and old one on #8 and there is a noticeable crease near the top of #12 which has been strengthened verso. Note: Each item is about 6 by 5 inches. There appears to be a smaller edition 4 inches across. They were issued in concertina like Leporellos which were very fragile.
